Another reason why the silica coating materials is because of their inert and amorphous phase.
Coating materials for biochemical environment purposes are dextran, PEG surfactant, and silica.
Other organic materials, such as cellulose, have also been successfully used to coat magnetic bead with porous surface and diameter ranging from 1 µm to 10 µm.
Hence, hydrophobic surface of Fe3O4@SiO2-Si-CH=CH2 microspheres will be advantageous to be used as a filler in polymeric materials.
