In this study, the plates were aligned such that the weld traveled along RD of the plate material and penetrated through ND.

Despite of those merits, these instruments still have several limitations such as dependency to samples material reflectivity and slope steepness.
The key idea of the median filter is to run through the data point by point, replacing each data point with the median of neighbouring data points.
