Introduction The sol-gel technology for metallic surface pretreatment is one of the relatively generic approaches in surface engineering and corrosion protection, as it can avoid the use of Cr(VI)-containing primer, which is environmental harmful.
It is considered that the aluminum element existing in the silica-based hybrid coatings plays a key role as network adjustor in improving the structure of the coating, thus modifies the compatibility between the substrate and the coating.

Abstract
The aim of the present work is to use intrinsically conducting polymers (ICPs) to improve the corrosion resistance ability of the galvanic coupling of galvanized steel coupled with steel by coating it with polypyrrole (PPy).
Key words Corrosion resistance, polypyrrole, galvanic corrosion, electropolymerization, conducting polymers Introduction Steel galvanization is a sacrificial protection method for steel against corrosion where, a layer of zinc is applied on the surface of steel either electrochemically or by hot dipping of steel in molten zinc.

Introduction
Two key challenges in the implementation of polymer-based nanocomposites are (i) obtaining good
dispersions of the nanofiller and (ii) ensuring that the accompanying increases in melt viscosity do
not compromise processing.
For this reason, initial efforts to investigate hybrid nanocomposite-composite materials in our laboratory have focused on thermoplastic composites, for which processing routes are specifically designed to overcome difficulties with high matrix viscosities [4].
Månson, submitted to Engineering Fracture Mechanics (2008).
