The material surface can be modified both from the chemical and physical point of view, by grafting particular functional groups or depositing thin films, as well as by inducing changes in the surface roughness and morphology.
The mirror at the fiber tip has been obtained depositing a highly reflective material, while the cantilever is a 0.5 mm thick copper sheet cut in about 20 mm x 10 mm, with a seismic mass on one end of few grams, so that the expected resonance frequency is slightly larger than 100 Hz.
