Many attempts, using various catalytic materials combined with a
non-thermal plasma system, have been made to enhance the conversion rate in the NOx reduction

In this study, we used various alkali ion-exchanged Y zeolites as catalytic materials to reduce the NOx level in the diesel exhaust gas and, more generally, to understand the fundamental properties and characteristics of the catalytic materials.
Experimental Materials.
We hoped to correlate these changes in the catalysts' surface composition to different catalytic activities of the materials, even though we could not verify a different distribution of the phases on the sample surfaces by the X-ray diffraction patterns.
Based upon the analytical results from various catalyst materials and NOx conversion measurements, we found that the Si/Al ratio is an important parameter affecting the catalytic activity.
