Materials and methods
The heat-balance model MEMI is based on the energy balance equation of the human body and some of the parameters of the Gagge two-node model [15].The general heat balance equation for the human body is as follows [1]:
M+W+R+C+ED+ERe+ESw+S=0 (1)
Where:
M = the metabolic rate (internal energy production by oxidation of food), W/m2
W = the physical work output, W/m2;R = the net radiation of the body, W/m2
C = the convective heat flow, W/m2
ED= the latent heat flow to evaporate water into water vapor diffusing through the skin (imperceptible perspiration), W/m2
ERe=the sum of heat flows for heating and humidifying the inspired air, W/m2
ESw= the heat flow due to evaporation of sweat, W/m2
S = the storage heat flow for heating or cooling the body mass.
