The more frequent industrial design approach suggests to include in the dynamic model of the blade a viscous damping ratio (typically about 0.2%) which accounts for the material damping, gas viscous damping and the hysteretic damping at the blade-disk joint.
For both cases, the loss factor, measured at the lowest amplitude agrees well with that measured in preliminary tests performed on the beams suspended by rubber bands and excited with a modal hammer, due to material and air viscous damping.
