Introduction There is currently a revival of germanium as a substrate material for the development of microelectronic technologies [1]-[5].
As an example, Fig. 1 shows the calculated diffusion current density (Jdiff=qni2D 0.5 /τ0.5 NA) at room temperature versus the substrate doping density (NA), for a Ge n+ -p junction, assuming a recombination lifetime τ of 100 µs in the bulk of the material.
