Abstract: Cell equalization acts an important role on the battery life preserving for space application. This paper describes a lithium ion battery cell equalization method for spacecraft that employs innovative design features in power subsystem. The scheme proposed for balancing the battery pack relies on energy conversion devices as it uses transformers to move energy from high voltage cells to low voltage cells without energy loss. The method employs bi-directional forward DC-AC converters, plus a unique common node to provide autonomous charge distribution. It also supports individual cell voltage monitoring, telemetry data. Multisim is used to analyze the function and performance, experimental result proves that the method is effective for Lithium Ion battery equalization.
