Heat transfer plays major role in many technical devises or in the formation of new materials. Heat transfer is based in three phenomena, namely conduction, convection and radiation. Understanding heat transfer at many levels, from atomic to macro, and its interaction with other physical phenomena has therefore long attracted the attention of many researchers in engineering and materials science and related disciplines. The present topical volume on "Heat Transfer Processes in Engineering Materials" captures a representative cross-section of some of the recent advances in the area of heat transfer. Reflecting the enormous breadth of the area, the range of topics covered is accordingly very large. Topics include the development and modification of the microstructure of materials. Technical applications such as casting problems, coal drying, air cooling systems and pyrolytic boilers. The prediction methods range from analytical to numerical methods such as the finite element method, the finite difference method and molecular dynamics simulation.
