Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The First Workshop on Metastable and Nanostructured Materials was held in the city of São Pedro (Brazil) in August 2001. These proceedings contain 22 revised papers which concentrate mainly on the topics of bulk metallic glasses and nanocrystalline materials prepared via the chemical synthesis, devitrification of mechanical alloying and compaction routes. However, other important contributions here deal with the spray deposition process and polymeric materials, as well as with the resultant magnetic, mechanical, electromagnetic, electrochemical, catalytic and optical properties of the product materials.

Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
This book deals with the chemical and electrochemical reactivity of novel materials in various environments. Special emphasis is put on metastable materials such as amorphous and nanostructured materials including carbon nanostructures and the novel bulk metallic glasses. Properties include corrosion resistance, electrochemical and catalytic activities, hydrogen sorption properties etc. The materials are made by various non-equilibrium processes such as rapid-quenching, high energy ball milling and thin film deposition techniques. Hydrogen storage and new materials for Ni-MH batteries are topics of particular interest in this book.

Metastable, mechanically alloyed and nanocrystalline materials belong to a group of materials having very promising characteristics. In the present book, major new advances are reported in the field of bulk metallic glasses and bulk nanocrystalline materials; as prepared using devitrification or mechanical alloying and compaction. Other important issues include the understanding of processing kinetics leading to applications in various fields; in particular, the mechanical alloying of steels and the exploitation of the magnetic properties of mechanically alloyed materials.

This books reports exciting new research results in the area of bulk metallic glasses and bulk nanocrystalline materials prepared by severe plastic deformation. Other major topics include synthesis and processing of metals, intermetallics and oxides, polymers, nanocomposites and others by different techniques, including mechanosynthesis and mechanochemistry. Also covered are the structural characterization of nanophase materials and the structural evolution caused by mechanical treatment.

The proceedings of the 6th European Conference on Powder iffraction cover 191 papers in the areas of X-ray and neutron diffraction (36 papers). Chapters on Method Development, Development of Instruments and Techniques, Software, Synchrotron and Neutron Diffraction offer new ideas on subjects as Microstructure of Materials, Determination of Crystallographic Structure, Quantitative Phase Analysis, and Texture & Coarse Grains. Developments in analysis using the X-ray lens –a bundle of glass capillaries- and single or double X-ray mirrors continue.

Description: The present book sums up the most recent advances in the investigation of nanocrystallization. Many new nanocrystalline materials with promising magnetic and mechanical properties have been developed. For example, soft-magnetic nanocrystalline Fe-based alloys, hard-soft nanocrystalline Fe/FeNdB-type magnets and light Al-based nanostructures with attractive mechanical properties.
