Description: This book contains the abstracts presented at the 20th International Conference on Internal Friction and Mechanical Spectroscopy (ICIFMS20) held in Lausanne 7-10 July 2025. This conference is the 20th of a series that started in 1956 in Providence (USA) until the last one in Rome in 2021. It is an open window on the progress of Science in understanding the elastic, viscoelastic and viscoelastic behaviour of materials. Topics cover a wide domain of modern physics: crystal defect dynamics, magneto mechanical damping, glass transition, and very low damping materials needed for gravitational wave detection and quantum opto-mechanical devices.

Description: The peer-reviewed papers in this special issue of Solid State Phenomena were selected from the 16th International Conference on Internal Friction and Mechanical Spectroscopy, ICIFMS-16, held on July 3 – 8, 2011, in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The proceedings aimed at attracting newcomers to this field of research in order to appreciate the potential of anelastic methodologies in the investigation of advanced materials and new phenomena. Scientists who are already involved in the field will also find here ideas and inspiration for new experiments and theories.

Description: This work bridges the gaps between mechanical spectroscopy, internal friction, relaxation phenomena in solids and the spectroscopic approach to the dissipation of mechanical energy in solids.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
A limited number of papers are selected from different fields in order to compare the analysis of similar relaxation phenomena occurring in various materials.
