Description: This book comprises results of diverse fields and experimental researches in the area of archaeometallurgy. The Papers are peer-reviewed full text papers, abstracts of which were presented at the Ninth International Conference on the Beginnings of the Use of Metals and Alloys (BUMA IX, University in Busan, Korea, October 16 - 19, 2017). We hope this collection will be useful and interesting for many specialists, whose activity is related to research in the area of anthropology, ancient metallurgy and modern methods in archaeometallurgy.

Description: The XXII International Materials Research Congress (IMRC) was held in Cancun Mexico from 11 to 15 August 2013. It was organized by the Sociedad Mexicana de Materiales (SMM) and the Materials Research Society (MRS). The IMRC 2013 included 5 plenary lectures, 1 science luncheon, 287 invited talks, and 1851 oral and poster presentations distributed in 30 different symposia, in addition, 6 tutorial courses were presented. About 1600 specialized scientists from more than 40 countries participated during the congress. The aim of the IMRC is provide an interactive forum to discuss and exchange ideas about the advances in synthesis, characterization, properties, processing, applications, basic research trends, corrosion prevention, and more, all related to the area of materials science and engineering. This event provides an excellent opportunity for materials scientists around the world to have a space to exchange their ideas and to discuss their results.

Description: This book presents the proceedings of the International Conference on Residual Stresses 9 and is devoted to the prediction/modelling, evaluation, control, and application of residual stresses in engineering materials. The state of the art is presented by the contributions of researchers from both academia and industry. New developments, on stress-measurement techniques, on modelling and prediction of residual stresses and on progress made in the fundamental understanding of the relation between the state of residual stress and the material properties, are highlighted. Focal points of interest are: simulation of stress profiles, depth-resolved stress analysis using synchrotron radiation and phase transformations in welded structures. This book offers an indispensable overview of the current understanding of the role of residual stresses in materials used in wide ranging application areas, such as, for example, microelectronic devices, sensors and actuators and machine parts, as in the automotive industry.

The main focus of this special topic volume is the development and possibilities of the MACRO language within TOPAS, with a specific session dedicated to WPPM. The collection is presented here in the form of a “macro tutorial” for the benefit of the entire powder diffraction community. More than a collection of standard scientific papers, the contributions to this special issue provide methods, tutorials and practical suggestions and solutions for the proper use of TOPAS and WPPM in a number of applications; ranging from the most common to the most refined and specific cases.

Materials, as utilized, experience the effect of residual, internal stresses, as these are the outcome of the material synthesis and/or engineering, and/or application in practice. Understanding and control of residual stresses is a prerequisite for successful application of materials in wide ranging areas as corresponding to, e.g., the microelectronic industry (thin films) and the automotive industry (crankshafts).

The EPDIC-5 Proceedings present the latest papers in this successful series of European Conferences on Powder Diffraction. They demonstrate the evergrowing interest from materials scientists, physicists, chemists, geologists - both industrial and academic- all having a direct interest in the practical application of this powerful and non-destructive method of analysis.
Part 1 comprises some 75 contributions, with sections on Methodological Developments, Development of Instruments and Techniques, Software, Synchrotron and Neutron Diffraction describing the latest ideas in these fields. Subjects such as Microstructure of Materials, Texture, Quantitative Phase Analysis and Crystal Structure Determination are also addressed; as in previous editions of these conference proceedings. An important step forward in materials analysis is now occurring: scientists and engineers are becoming more and more conscious of the fact that, by using these techniques, it is possible to obtain quantitative information from the same set of measurements, of material characteristics, that determine material properties. This advance has been made possible thanks to recent instrumental developments, such as the X-ray lens -a bundle of glass capillaries- and single or double X-ray mirrors. A very useful tool, that is extensively applied -as described in a sequence of some 15 contributions-, is the in-situ (i.e. time resolved) powder diffraction technique which has resulted from the ample availability of position sensitive detectors.
