The second volume of the topic series “Superalloys” contains articles published by Trans Tech Publications from 2018 up to 2019. This collection presents a wide range of scientific research results and engineering solutions in the field of alloy developments and performance, physical and mechanical properties, and processing technologies of various types of superalloys. We hope this collection will be beneficial and interesting to a broad audience of researchers and engineers from the area of materials science and engineering.
Even though composites are manufactured to near net shaped, machining has to be performed during the final production stage to get the finished products. Soft computing is a collection of methodologies that aim to exploit tolerance for imprecision, uncertainty and partial truth to achieve tractability, robustness and low solution cost. This special volume intends to draw a picture of the recent advances made in the soft computing assisted machinability studies for composite materials and includes the submission of high quality research articles. Suitable topics include the application to the machining (turning, drilling, milling) of the composites like metal matrix composites, fiber reinforced composites, glass epoxy polymer composites, polyamides and PEEK using various soft computing techniques such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, particle swarm optimization and simulated annealing.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
These proceedings of the 2011 International Conference on Applied Mechanics and Manufacturing Technology (AMMT’11) focused on applied mechanics and its application to manufacturing technology, and thus provided a forum within which researchers and practitioners could exchange research results and share developmental experiences in these fields. The contents represent a timely survey of the subjects covered.
Advanced Materials and Processing are important areas of research in Engineering Science and Technology, which have to focus on bridging the critical gap between researchers and engineers in order to shape the new world. Advanced Materials and Processing play an increasingly important role in the global economy and in daily life. Researchers and engineers strive to develop new devices and processes, using mathematical and analytical tools, in order to create technologies for a rapidly expanding range of materials and manufacturing processes. A large proportion of the present papers addressed current scientific research and provided solutions to industrial problems; thereby creating an environment of mutual interest to industry and academia. The papers are grouped into 10 chapters: 1. Forming Processes, 2. Casting, Joining and Related Processes, 3. Materials, 4. Materials Removal Processes, 5. High Energy Beam Removal Process, 6. Precision Engineering and Nano-Technology, 7. Surface Engineering, 8. Computer-Aided Engineering, 9. Green Manufacturing and Management, 10. Others. This comprehensive coverage will be much appreciated by readers.
This special volume focuses on the current progress and trends in machining technologies. The objective was to harness and exchange experience, knowledge, new ideas and information concerning the latest developments in research pertaining to a wide range of subjects such as machining of novel, difficult-to-cut and free-machining materials, new tool materials and new abrasive tools, precision, micro and nano-machining, abrasive machining, high-speed machining, unconventional machining, new machine tools and tooling technology, and monitoring of the machining process.
