Description: Physical and numerical simulations make it possible for materials science to go from experience-based to science-based, and from qualitative to quantitative understanding. Physical simulations, which effectively reveal the underlying principles of a material’s structure and property evolution, save significant amounts of time and money. Numerical simulations meanwhile permit descriptions and forms of material processes which are impossible to achieve experimentally. Both types of simulation are naturally gaining acceptance worldwide, and will become a prominent approach used in materials research in the 21st century. Young researchers will therefore benefit greatly from studying this volume.

Description: This work contains the proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Sheet Metal, held in Leuven, Belgium, from the 18th to the 20th April, 2011.
Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
The objective of the International Conferences on Sheet Metal is to provide a forum where researchers, academics and industrialists can discuss and promote both the early dissemination of research results, and technology-transfer in sheet-metal processing. The conference provides an opportunity for those working on experimental research, as well as those involved in analytical and numerical modeling, to present their work. The contents therefore provide an unequalled overview of the field.

Collections of peer-reviewed papers are always excellent sources of knowledge and new ideas for researchers working in both universities and industry. The present collection, in particular, provides interdisciplinary and international resources; thus encouraging the close cooperation of materials scientists, and manufacturing and computer engineers and promoting the diffusion of research results, and technology transfer, in all areas of Sheet Metal Processing and Characterization.

Description: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).
This volume brings together the most exciting ideas of international, and especially European, researchers concerning the latest developments in severe plastic deformation techniques and in the thermomechanical processing of materials for both structural and functional applications. The areas of interest include not only the conventional hot- and cold-deformation of metals but also recently developed severe plastic deformation processes for the production of ultra-fine and nanostructured materials.
In particular, the following specific topics are covered: Multifunctional nanostructured coatings, Modelling and recrystallization, Nanostructured materials and Severe plastic deformation, Hot plastic deformation, Process Mechanics and Microstructure.
