Description:

The 15th conference on metallography was held on September 21-23, 2021, in Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic. It was focused on the application of metallography in industrial practice - for the solution of production problems, elucidation of premature failure of machine components and constructions during service, breakdowns or accidents. In addition, some results of new research projects which could improve manufacturing technology or the quality of machine products were presented. Among other contributions from the conference collected in this book, individual papers deal with failure causes and fracture mechanisms, insufficient material properties and incorrect function of the components. Using metallographic analyses, which include light and electron microscopy, spectroscopic methods, and physical methods for the detection of defects, material structures are also investigated. Results are correlated with material properties, and recommendations for production improvement are given.

Description:

The book covers a broad range of topics related to damage and failure of structural materials and parts. The collection contains the results of research and analysis of the fracture behavior of the materials that are subject to fatigue and extreme plastic deformation including analysis of the failures caused by stress concentrators such as welded joints. Several papers focus on the structural design of engineering parts and prediction of their lifespan based on the knowledge of damage processes. The materials combine aspects of experimental, theoretical and computational investigations with an emphasis on the direct applications in engineering.

The book was comprised of the papers presented at the conference "New Methods of Damage and Failure Analysis of Structural Parts" (November 01-04, 2016, Yokohama, Japan).

Edited by: Anna J. Dolata and Maciej Dyzia
Online since: August 2012
Description: This collection of 30 articles presents research results, in the field of light metal alloys, grouped into 3 chapters. Chapter I presents subjects related to the manufacture of aluminum alloys, grain refinement and welded joints. It also presents the results of investigations into manufacturing methods for, and the properties of, aluminium-matrix composites. Chapter II presents the results of research carried out on conventional and new magnesium casting-alloys. The first group of articles covers the effects of modification upon the structure and properties of casting alloys. The following papers present research results on the plastic deformation of Mg alloys. Subsequent articles cover topics related to welding technologies, and the final part of the chapter concerns magnesium-matrix composites. The results of research carried out on new generations of titanium alloys are presented in Chapter III, which includes investigations of the microstructure and properties of Ti-Al based alloys. The possibilities of heat-treatment and diffusion-brazing of Ti alloys are also discussed.
