The Sixth Meeting on Chemistry and Life was held at Brno University of Technology, Faculty of Chemistry. It is the tradition of regular meetings providing specialists from industry, research and academia with a forum to exchange ideas on recent advances in research in materials chemistry, environmental chemistry and technology, food chemistry and biotechnology, physical chemistry and applied chemistry.
The 137 papers are grouped as follows:
Chapter 1: Polymer Matrix Composites;
Chapter 2: Metal Matrix Composites and Interpenetrating Materials;
Chapter 3: Ceramic Matrix Composites;
Chapter 4: Hybrid Structures, Laminates;
Chapter 5: Structural Health Monitoring;
Chapter 6: Coatings;
Chapter 7: Modelling, Simulation;
Chapter 8: Manufacturing Technology, Components/Products/Applications;
Chapter 9: Testing and Characterization;
Chapter 10: Cemented carbides, Cermets, Wear and Abrasion Materials;
Chapter 11: Bio-Composites;
Chapter 12: Recycling & Sustainability, Building Materials
These proceedings consist of the fully refereed papers presented at the International Conference on Key Engineering Materials (ICKEM 2011) held on March 25 - 27, 2011 in Sanya, China. The main aim was to provide an international scientific forum for the exchange of new ideas in a number of fields via in-depth discussions with peers from around the world. Both inward research; core areas of key engineering materials and outward research; multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, and applications are covered in this timely work.
The field of “polymers in concrete” is rather well consolidated within the construction industry, and its future will be one of benefiting fully from the synergy between the organic and mineral materials. Concrete-polymer composites (C-PC) exhibit excellent adhesion strength and durability in aggressive environments and the good performance of these materials makes innovative applications possible; including new technologies for restoring and renovating buildings.
