Description: The volume is a collection of edited papers presented at the 18th International Conference on Fracture and Damage Mechanics (FDM 2019), which was held in Rodos Palace Hotel, Rhodes, Greece. The papers cover a wide range of topics related to fracture and damage mechanics. Studies on failure analysis, fracture mechanics, composites, micromechanics, multiscale modeling as well as probabilistic aspects, computer modeling methods, and non-linear problems are presented for a wide range of structural materials, both monolithic and composite. Studies include fatigue, corrosion, creep, dynamic fracture and durability together with damage tolerance aspects. Selected papers on multiscale and multifunctional composites have been presented together with works on structural health monitoring, remaining life assessment methodologies and predictive modeling.

Description: In the field of engineering, the ability of a finished part to fulfil its function in the intended application is closely related to properties of materials for its production. The development of new high-technology structural materials, adapted to each new application, requires knowledge of base matter properties, the regularity of changes in its microstructure and properties during processing. This volume contains results of research of the microstructures of materials, methods by which the latter are worked, the effect of interactions at the interfaces for multi-materials and how structure determines their final properties.

Description: The innovative assembly and materials junction processes result in multi-materials components with different mechanical behavior, with various electrical and optical properties must meet the technological challenges to improve product performance, relief structures, reducing cycle times and process control. The research efforts are principally focused on the effect of the forming parameters of very diverse processes (forming, solid phase (friction) or liquid (TIG, SMAW, etc.) brazing and additive manufacturing, materials implantation and deposition) on the microstructural aspect of the junction ensuring the cohesion and required properties of the resulting multi-material assemblies.
