Review from Ringgold Inc., ProtoView: At the 18th Electronics Division Meeting of the Ceramic Society of Japan, chaired by lead editor Mizutani and held in October 1998, in Kawasaki, some 80 presentations were distributed by research field in approximately the following proportions: conductive ceramics (28%), dielectric materials (35%), piezoelectric ceramics (8%), ZnO ceramics (17%), insulators (6%), and batteries and cells (6%). The 64 selected papers reflect the trends of increasing interest in the areas of ZnO, based upon the semiconducting properties of single crystals, and thin films of dielectric ceramics, due to the development of new memory devices. The emphasis is on the potential applications of these materials as well as on production and fabrication techniques.
