Experimental Mechanics in Nano and Biotechnology
Description:
The main focus of this book is the rapidly expanding new field of experimental mechanics, as applied to nano and biotechnology, which is enthusiastically responding to the advances in these technologies and to the increasing need for precise measurements of novel materials and biological tissues. For instance, whereas optical techniques had previously been preferred, particularly in the field of bio-engineering, other mature methods are now being exploited in tandem with the growth in micro- and nano-manufacturing.

Review from Ringgold Inc., ProtoView:
In this two-volume set, Lee (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) and Kim (Korea U.) present 455 peer-reviewed papers from the September 2006 International Conference on Experimental Mechanics, which focused on research, development, and applications in the relatively new field of experimental mechanics in nano- and bio- technology. What appear to have be the keynote presentations discuss nano and micro mechanical measurement of interaction forces between solid surfaces; experimental study of electro-magneto-mechanical behavior of electromagnetic solids; and image processing for optical methods to analyze shape, deformation, stress, and strain. These are followed, in the first volume, by sections covering optical methods and techniques, micro electro-mechanical systems and micromechanical testing, nano technology, reliability engineering, and biotechnology and life sciences. The second volume presents papers that are grouped into sections discussing fatigue and fracture mechanics, materials testing, smart materials, impact experiments and analysis, and composite materials.
