Review from Ringgold Inc., ProtoView: Though this is the first international conference, the Society has been holding annual conferences since 1994, so the process would not seem as new to them as to the rest of the world. Some 100 selected and peer-reviewed papers explore a wide range of topics in the large and growing field of very small and shrinking things. Among them are using atomic force microscopy to measure line-edge roughness with nanometer-scale precision, experimental studies of the surface forces on micro-gap plates with different bumps, the effect of the thickness uniformity in micro-electroforming processes by dividing the conductive zone on the cathode, error autocompensation of micromachined gyroscopes, preparing and characterizing micro polypyrrole electrodes for a supercapacitor, and simulating the movement of nanofibers for near-field electrospinning.
