Index Loss Analysis of YBCO Coated-Conductor Coils by Means of Simulation

Article Preview

Abstract:

The high temperature superconducting (HTS) tape has low index value compared with the 1st generation superconductor based on the power-law model of V-I characteristics because of its intrinsic characteristics of weak-link and low pinning potential. So, there is potential drop resulting in joule heat called index loss when it operates below quench. To search a way for researching, the Weibull distributions of critical current and n-value in turns of a model double-pancake (DP), made of coated conductor, are numerically calculated based on anisotropic empirical models obtained by fitting the experimental data in the temperature of 77 K. And also the index loss of double-pancake (DP) is also calculated. Then, the double-pancake is tested at 77 K, furthermore the simulative results are quietly approaching the experimental results. Finally the optimal operation current for this DP is discovered.
