Combined Drill String Design and Length Limit Calculation in Deepwater Abandonment

Article Preview

Abstract:

With the development of offshore oil and gas exploration, the development tendency is expanded from the shallow sea to the deepwater gradually. During the projects of deepwater abandonment, casing withdrawal is a necessary process. Although the drill string is affected mainly by the tensile force in the shallow sea, the extruding force is the main factors of dill string length. Because the drill string is designed in single size, and its length is limited. But the drill string whose length in the deepwater abandonment is needed more than in shallow sea, so it could not be designed in single size. The reason is that the dill string is easy to be collapse by large length, great adhesive force and heavy weights. For the sake of the demand of safety, economy and time requirement in deepwater abandonment, combined drill string design is a good choice for the deepwater abandonment.
