The Analysis of Butterfly Effect on Project Quality in the View of Quality Chain
Abstract:
By proposing the concept of project quality chain and on the theory of butterfly effect in chorology, this paper studies the forming reason of the butterfly effect in the project quality chain. It also puts forward such measures to manage the defects in the quality chain as the early intervention of quality supervision and quality risk source identification and timely control. This research contributes theoretically to realize the quality supervision of construction whole life cycle. With the rapid development of economy and urbanization in China, the construction project presents the features of huge investment, technical sophistication, new material application and quick update, which brings the difficulties and challenges to the supervision on project quality, therefore, the single phase supervision cannot meet the requirement. For recent years, the quality defect in construction engineering has become the social issue and the dispute on the quality of commodity houses in urban area, proving to be one of the ten complaints in national consumption since 2001 and resulting in various hassles and social resources wasting [.The potential quality defects are associated with construction engineering at any stage of the whole life cycle where an invisible but a continuous chain exists, that is, the quality chain. This concept is the modern theory viewing from quality management to ensure the products to meet customers demands through integrating the overwhelming resources of participants in the chain [.Since the influence on quality from many implementing bodies, the research on the project quality chain and its butterfly effects provides the theoretical reference to realize the quality supervision in the whole life cycle of construction project.
