this paper gives a brief account of the 3D printing concept and a comprehensive analysis of the development status, trend and the application prospect of the industry both at home and abroad. It introduces the application development situation of the 3D technology in the field of industrial design at home and abroad, discusses the potential impact of the 3D technology on the manufacturing, and puts forward the proposal for how the industrial design industry in our country should deal with the industrial revolution brought about by the 3D printing industry.
