A Corpus-based Contrastive Study on Academic Vocabulary of RA Abstracts in Applied Linguistics
Abstract:
The study sought to compare the occurrence frequency of academic vocabulary in abstracts written by experts and Chinese undergraduates by investigating 60 RA abstracts in applied linguistics. The results show that the coverage of AWL is similar in the abstracts written by these two groups of writers, however, different preferences of academic vocabulary are detected in their abstracts. The findings have significant pedagogical implications for novice writers’ abstracts wording in applied linguistics.
