Method of Simulating Rapid Prototyping Part Shape and Application

Abstract:

A method of simulating the shape of Rapid Prototyping (RP) part is proposed to evaluate the data processing quality in RP. A series of section contours of the CAD model are obtained firstly; and then the section boundary curves are compensated to satisfy the part’s application purpose; finally, the simulated model of RP part is achieved by extruding the sections with the corresponding layer thickness. The results indicate that the method can denote the RP part’s shape and size tolerance caused by manufacturing data, and that RP part with mixed tolerance fabricated by adaptive slicing has better shape and size precision.
