Preparation and Structural Determination of Anhydrous Calcium Sulphate Crystal Whisker Material

Article Preview

Abstract:

In order to investigate the novel preparation methods of calcium (II) sulphate crystal whisker materials, an anhydrous calcium (II) sulphate crystal was prepared by the reaction of taurine with calcium carbonate. The calcium (II) sulphate crystal material was determined by X-Ray single crystal diffraction technique. The results show that the calcium (II) sulphate crystal belongs to orthorhombic, space group Pnma with a = 0.88567(14) nm, b = 0.56639(12) nm, c = 0.72642(13) nm, V = 0.36440(12) nm3 and Dc = 2.482 Mg/m3. The calcium (II) sulphate crystal molecules form coordination polymers by the interaction of calcium (II) with sulphate. The prepared anhydrous calcium (II) sulphate crystal materials have potential application in light weight building materials and refractory coating.
