Effect of Diamond Shape on Surface Roughness of Diamond/Cu Composites
Abstract:
Diamond/copper composites have excellent thermal physical properties and they are usually be grinded and polished to certain roughness before sealing with other materials, in practical engineering applications. This paper studied the effects of different diamond particles on surface roughness of diamond/copper composites. Research results show that under the same grinding conditions, copper-based composites enhanced by broken diamond have smoother surface and higher bending strength; composites enhanced by monocrystalline diamond have the roughest surface and the lowest bending strength. The difference of the roughness and bending strength is attributed to surface morphology of the diamond and the bonding strength between particles and matrix.
