Abstract: This paper discusses the development of an in-situ, real-time tool wear monitoring system using the cutting sound that occurs during machining. In this study, the turning of carbon steel was implemented to examine the relationship between tool wear and the waveform of the cutting sound. Characteristic waveforms were extracted by fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis of the cutting sound. The results indicated that the sound pressure of a specific frequency range increased during the progress of cutting-tool wear. In addition, it was possible to monitor the progress of tool wear by measuring the spectrum of a specific frequency range, even if the shape of the tool rest and the shapes of the work material were different, under certain cutting conditions.

Abstract: Computer aided designing software not only the possibility to speed up the process of putting a new model into production and improve the quality of the products, but also reduces material costs and labour intensity, ensuring an elastic change of the assortment. The designing of clothes includes a row of processes and one of the most time and labour consuming is constructing. A construction displays the layout (pattern) of the surface of the body (garment). As it depends on correct anthropometric data, it is very important to get ones right. The use of 3D surface scanning technologies to produce digitized representations of the human anatomy has the potential to help change the way a wide range of products are designed and produced. Every scanning device is equipped with optic (light) appliances to ensure non-contact measuring. Measurements acquired by 3D scanning device should be checked out for compliance with CAD systems for automatized pattern making procedure. The paper introduces the experiment with scanned data usage in CAD pattern making. The project aims to implement scanned data values in the CAD/CAM individual measurement list for acquiring individualized pattern blocks.

Abstract: Intelligent tutoring system (ITS) with the possibility to track a user’s / student’s operations into CAD/CAM system would allow gaining a wide range of knowledge about successful or non-successful completion of the task and precision of the result – drawing and/or design. It would be possible to diagnose each stage of a students’ work in any CAD/CAM system. Each action would be traceable and ITS would gain information about the quality of these actions (speed, precision, tools used, coherence and sequence). In this paper for implementation of such systems the intelligent agent paradigm is used and multi agent system is proposed.

Abstract: The computing industry is one of the fastest growing industries and it is caused by the rapid progression of computer hardware and software technological developments. The high-capacity storage systems become the important element of the network architectures. The network architectures of high-capacity storage systems can be developed by using various, different techniques. The present paper aims to give a review about the storage systems architecture, systematize the various types of connection, and present the significance of virtualization. Based on industry specific literature and on own research, the present paper sets up a clear systematization of these techniques by providing a brief summary of their essence, while also providing examples of their application in different network storages. The present article also provides an insight into the topic of the different connecting types of network systems, while highlighting the importance of virtualization and application of the iSCSI technology. After the explanation of the challenge of redundancies in storage systems, the author outlines the importance of using RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) technology for handling the issue of redundancy

Abstract: Military sleeping bags are envisaged for intensive use during military actions. They have extra properties that provide protection for military staff. In cold climatic conditions when sleeping bags are used for rest soldiers’s combat ability and survival depends on the thermal insulation properties of material technical resources (gear) and clothing.Aim of the research is to establish the extreme temperature of military sleeping bags and military uniforms complete sets, to find the optimal set and define conformity to NATO AECTP-230 “Climatic conditions” cold climate categories C0 – C1.

Abstract: The research has been conducted in the framework of the project financed by ESF “Practical application of labour relations and work safety normative acts in sectors and enterprises” implemented by the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia (LDDK) in cooperation with “DA Kompetentie Specialisti”, Ltd. The elaborated method of work measurement can be used in any sector. In the framework of the study, two pilot projects have been implemented – at a furniture manufacturing company and a cleaning service company.

Abstract: In Japan, a policy mechanism called the "Feed-in Tariff (FIT)," which was designed to accelerate investment in renewable energy technologies, was introduced in July 2012. However, thus far, only solar power has been introduced, whereas other renewable energy options such as wind, geothermal or biomass have only made small progress; although, wind power, especially, has been found to have a very large potential for providing electricity in Japan. In addition, the price of electricity will essentially increase as a result of the FIT scheme. This indicates that the FIT may not always be a good option for accelerating the use of renewable energies. This study intends to analyze the effectiveness of the FIT mechanism in Japan and to propose another way to introduce renewable energies through the use of the concept of "marginal cost of power facility." The basic idea of this concept is that the financial resource of a subsidy for renewable energy is neither a tax nor an increase in the price of electricity, but is actually money saved on imported fossil fuels through the utilization of renewable energy.

Abstract: In this paper, we investigate the problem of optimal allocation of indivisible consumers in the presence of multinomenclature resource constraints of fuzzy nature: under the assumption that the restriction on the amount of multinomenclature resources consumed is not defined clearly. A mathematical model for one of the many possible formulations of the given problem is constructed from scratch; efficient approximation algorithm for solving the approximation model in the dual formulation is also elaborated.

Abstract: Function of military uniform camouflage is to visually hide human outline and minimize the contrast between him and the environment. Every national armed forces develops its own camouflage pattern and color palette. Latvian National Armed Forces are developing universal camouflage pattern to be used in operations in diverse geographic locations. The research objective is to verify conformity of experimental uniform camouflage of green color and evaluate fitting of the camouflage pattern into a particular environment.

Abstract: Textile applications have a significant role in the automotive architecture. The structure of textiles, used fibres and textile producing technology depends on textile placement in the car. Sound absorption is a very important property of textiles because of the large number of noise sources in a car (engine and driving noise) and from the road. Nonwoven fabrics have the ability to reduce noise; other significant benefits of nonwovens are high productivity, low production costs, opportunity to blend natural fibres into them and possibility to use nonwovens as base component of composites.
