Study on the Salt Spray Corrosion and Erosion Behavior of TC4 Titanium Alloy
Abstract:
The erosion and salt spray corrosion–erosion cyclic properties of TC4 titanium are systematically studied in this paper. 1Cr11Ni2W2MoV martensitic stainless steel was selected as the comparison material. Experimental results show that the erosion resistance and salt-spray corrosion resistance have no direct relation to the hardness of two kinds of material. TC4 with low hardness and good toughness exhibits much better erosion resistance than 1Cr11Ni2W2MoV with high hardness and poor toughness under the same test conditions. The erosion rate at 90°impinged angle is lower than that at 30°impinged angle. The combination of erosion and salt spray corrosion reduced the erosion rate of TC4, producing negative interactions.
