Abstract: Thunderstorm microbursts, which are sources of extreme wind loadings in nature, have caused numerous structural failures, especially collapses of transmission tower around the world. Numerical simulation using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has recently made significant progress in simulating downbursts. In this paper, transient simulation of a three-dimensional moving downburst was studied using computational fluid dynamics simulation method. Transient simulation of a three-dimensional moving downburst was conducted using time-filtered Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) numerical simulation method. The three-dimensional transient wind field characteristics in a moving downburst were studied in detail. The results indicate that transient wind field characteristics in a moving downburst present quite different characteristics compared with stationary downburst at different heights and radial positions.

Abstract: Buildability is increasingly becoming a major requirement in building construction practice. The aim of buildability is to improve efficiency of the overall building process by developing construction sensitive designs. The objective of this study is to develop a model to assess the buildability of the buildings within Malaysian construction projects. To achieve the objective of this study, a structured interview with an expert panel, including 30 construction professionals, was conducted to compare the common buildability attributes with common construction systems for building structure in Malaysia using analytical hierarchy process (AHP). The proposed model to assess the buildability of the construction buildings was evaluated and the model was amended to fulfill the requirements of the construction industry in Malaysia. Results of this study are useful to evaluate the design of the buildings within Malaysian construction projects, thus saving time, cost, and enhancing quality.

Abstract: The construction fund of the security housing is in shortage, the financing way is single and not smooth. In order to effectively solve the capital bottleneck problems and to speed up the construction progress of the security housing, this paper introduces PPP pattern into the construction of the security housing. Based on the perspective of game theory, analyses the bargaining model during the process of income distribution between the government and the private agency in the construction of the security housing, then puts forward some related suggestions to promote the construction of the security housing in PPP-pattern.

Abstract: For many high-rising buildings, large local space is very useful for its special function needs, such as conference hall and hotel lobby. The shake table test results of a high-rising building with large local space show that the dynamic characteristics of such structure are complex and the torsional mode becomes the first mode, while the torsional responses under earthquake excitation, especially of the floor just above the large local space, are very remarkable. In this paper, the bidirectional Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is employed for reducing the torsional vibration of such complex high-rise building structure. A reduced-scale model is design and constructed. A series of shake table tests are carried out and the test results indicate that the TMD system is very effective in torsional vibration control of structural system.

Abstract: The impoundment and running of Three Gorges Reservoir makes the water level fluctuate between 175m and 145m, and the water level fluctuation has been leading to the seepage field variation of bank slopes, which will bring out the stability change of bank slopes. In order to obtain the relationship between the angles of dip and factors of safety of bedding rock slopes which are generalized slope models from some bedding rock slopes failure in some reservoirs, the finite element method based on Darcy seepage theory was taken to simulate the seepage field variation of this type of bedding rock slopes when exposed to water level fluctuation, then the underground water tables of the bedding rock slopes with different angles of dip were obtained, finally the factors of safety of bedding rock slopes when water level rose and fell at speed of 0.2m/d were calculated by limit equilibrium method. Through the regulation analysis of factors of safety with the increase of angles of dip of bedding rock slopes when exposed to reservoir water level fluctuation, the relationship between factors of safety and angles of dip of bedding rock slopes was obtained.
