Sizing System for Automatic Construction of Dress Shirt Patterns for Men

Article Preview

Abstract:

This study aimed to devise a sizing system for dress shirts which can reflect the true characteristics of body shapes to develop an automatic design of dress shirt patterns for men in the future. In the existing sizing system based on neck circumference and cervical-to-wrist length, chest circumference is regarded as a secondary size dimension. However, in order to automatically design and produce male shirts, all dimensions of the human body must be accurately reflected, including chest circumference. Additionally, the drop is an absolutely necessary factor needed to design shirts that cover the torso. Therefore, this study concludes that a sizing system needs to be developed that takes into account chest circumference, cervical-to-wrist length, neck circumference, and drop all together.
