Research on Dyeing Performance of Dew-Retted Linen Modified with Urea

Article Preview

Abstract:

The dyeing behavior of dew-retted linen fabrics modified with urea was analyzed. The effects of processing conditions, such as concentration of urea, modification time, and modification temperature on the dyeing performance of dew-retted linen were investigated. The surface morphology of linen fiber was observed by stereoscopic microscope. The breaking strength of linen fabrics was measured by fabric strength tester. The k/s value was tested by spectrophotometer. The results show that, the dyeing performance of the modified linen was greatly improved, but its breaking strength was decreased and the morphology of linen fiber became roughly. Meanwhile, the optimal process conditions were obtained, i.e. the concentration of urea was 150 g/L, the modification temperature at 160°C, and modification time for 6 min.
