Design of a Rotor Assembly for Bandwidth Limiting Neutron Chopper

Article Preview

Abstract:

A bandwidth limiting neutron chopper is an important device in neutron scattering facilities. It contains a rotor assembly running precisely under control to cut a neutron beam into designed pulses. There are a number of requirements for the rotor assembly to function rightly. The work described in this paper is on design and developing of the rotor assembly. Main content includes structure consideration, numerical calculation of the rotating part stress, test of resin composite adhesion, dynamic balancing process, as well as system operation result. A prototype of rotor assembly was made and operated at the speed of 3000 rpm, which satisfied the requirements.
