Synthesis and Solubilities of 2,6,7-Trioxa-1-Phospha Bicycle [2,2,2] Octane-4-Carboxylic Acid 1-Oxide in Selected Solvents

Abstract:

A phosphorus-containing flame retardant 2,6,7-trioxa-1-phospha bicycle [2,2,2] octane-4-carboxylic acid 1-oxide (PBCC) was synthesized. The structure and the thermal stability of the compound were characterized by infrared spectroscopy (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (1HNMR and 13PNMR), mass spectroscopy (MS), elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).Using a static analytical method, the solubilities of PBCC in ethanol in the temperature range from 298.90 to 343.20 K and in water in the temperature range from 298.85 to 363.20 K were determined. The solubilities of PBCC in methanol and acetonitrile1 were also measured for comparison. The solubility data were correlated with an empirical equation.
