The Key Factors to Promote LNG-Powered Vessels in Inland Waterway Transport of China

Article Preview

Abstract:

Using LNG as ship fuel is one of the most important measures applied to reduce shipping emission and green development in recent years. This paper aims to study on the feasibility of applying LNG to inland waterway vessels in China. A broad investigation, data analysis and comparative analysis are conducted in this paper to get insightful conclusions regarding to the feasibility of technology, the effect of emission reduction, the economic feasibility and bunkering pathway. It is found that it is practicable to apply LNG in inland waterway vessels from the technical and secure perspective, the emission of CO2、NOX and SOX can be reduced. However, the cost will increase significantly, in particular for the vessels in small sizes.
