The welding tool penetrates the joining materials up to the contact of the shoulder with their upper surface and rotates at controlled speeds, moving at a predetermined welding speed, along the joint line to weld the two joining materials, as shown in Figure 1.
Unlike fusion welding processes, in which materials reach melting temperature in the joining zone, FSW allows precise control over the reactions occurring in the solid state, making it an attractive option for joining similar and dissimilar metallic materials [3].
Joining materials - 4mm thick EN AW 1200 aluminium alloy sheets, for which FSW and SFSW welded joints have been made.
