The paper presents the conservation state of a XVIII-th century triptych, evaluated by analyzing the materials and the technologies used to create it.
Using techniques such as Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy, cross-sections by staining tests, Scanning Electron Microscope coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, allows for a better identification of the materials used by the painter, for selecting characteristics that have evolved since the making of the art piece and for evaluating the materials of micro or macro structural destruction processes, and also allows for the identification of processes that are causing changes to the materials used [2-9].
