Introduction Brittle materials, such as ceramics, silicon, glass, and sapphire, have been widely used in many high-tech fields such as aerospace, electronics and optics etc.
The SiC ceramic is used as workpiece material, which is modeled with the Johnson-Holmquist ceramic material model developed by Johnson and Holmquist in 1995[10].

Today the material has been developed into a high quality technical grade ceramic with very good mechanical properties.
It is used in abrasives, refractories, ceramics, and numerous high-performance applications.
