Further cooling to -25 °C did not cause any noticeable changes in the structure (Fig. 1c).

This determines the zonal structure of the partially oxidized pellets, i.e. a magnetite core and a hematite shell.
At these temperatures the swelling of hematite grains does not exceed 3% (Fig. 1), and the structure of both reduced and unreduced pellets is quite dense.
The structure of the pellets represents the assembly of cracked slag inclusions with practically no binder between the ore grains.
Low mechanical characteristics of the partially oxidized pellets are attributed to their zonal structure.

Before calculating absorption structure, four SiC layers with the surface terminating H atoms were fully relaxed.
Fig 1 shows the optimized adsorption structures for 4H-SiC(000-1) surface.
For another surfaces, similar trend of the adsorption structure were observed.
