Introduction During a high speed cutting, many machined materials exhibit a serrated chip which contains repeated adiabatic shear band as cutting conditions varying [1].
During a normal speed cutting, serrated chip is often found in the hard-cutting materials whose thermal characteristics is bad, such as titanium alloy, nickel alloy and high-strength alloy steels.
During a cutting process, the workpiece material often bears elastic-plastic flow at temperatures ranging from 200˚C to 1000 ˚C or the higher, strains ranging from 6 to 20 or the higher and strain rates ranging from 103s-1 to 105s-1 or the higher, so it is vital importance for FE simulation analysis to build a reasonable model of the material flow stress in view of the effect of various factors on the flow stress.
