Although the propagation of mechanical waves in periodic composite materials is an old topic in condensed matter physics and in acoustics [7], the search for band gaps in PCs increased recently [3–5,8–11].
Results and Discussion Epoxy and Al2O3 are polycrystalline materials, and may be treated as isotropic on macroscopic scale.
These defects could modify the elastic wave propagation in composite materials altering the band structure of them.
