Accounting for the Flexibility of Beam-Column Joints within New Zealand Steel Moment-Resisting Frame Structures WILES Lilliana1,a, PETHYBRIDGE Jonathan2,b and SULLIVAN Timothy John3,c* 1Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand alrw45@uclive.ac.nz, bjjp58@uclive.ac.nz, ctimothy.sullivan@canterbury.ac.nz Keywords: steel moment-resisting frame, beam-column joints, rotational stiffness.
Many practicing engineers use simplified design tables to detail beam-column joints for strength requirements, without accounting for the flexibility of joints.
Many practicing engineers size members and connections using tables from the HERA design guide [3], which provides the strength of steel members and connections.

Preface The 7th International Conference of Advanced Manufacturing ICAMaT 2014 was held under the high patronage of the Romanian Academy, on 23 - 24 October 2014, in Bucharest, Romania, at the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, Faculty of Engineering and Management of Technological Systems (IMST), with the participation of experts from Romania, France, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Iraq etc.
The Conference was held in parallel with other three Conferences organized by the IMST Faculty, ICNcT 2014 - The 17th International Conference of Nonconventional Technologies, POLCOM 2014 - The International Conference of Technology for Polymeric and Composites Products, ROBOTICS 2014 - The 6th International Conference on Robotics, that were held in honor of the twofold anniversary: 60 years anniversary of the Manufacturing Engineering Department (TCM) from POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest and 15 years since the first Conference on Advanced Manufacturing Technologies - ICAMaT was launched.
The first ICAMaT Conference was held in 1999 under the acronym CITAF (derived from the abbreviation in Romanian) at the initiative of the Manufacturing Engineering Department (TCM) and had a national character.
The Manufacturing Engineering Department, which is part of the Faculty of Engineering and Management of Technological Systems, was established in September 1954 with the support of Professor Constantin POPOVICI, mentor and promoter of the TCM study programmes in Romania.
The Conference successfully brought together engineers, researchers and professors, specialists in various fields, such as Product Development, CAD, CAM, CAE, CIM Techniques and Concurrent Engineering, Cutting Processes, Cutting Tools and Forming Technologies, Manufacturing Technologies, Technological Equipment and Automation, Management, Marketing, Production Planning and Production Quality.
