The B2 to O/D019 transformation in Ti-22Al-27Nb or β(bcc) to ω(hexagonal) transformation in Ti-18Nb presents some similar features as the thermoelastic martensitic transformation, in which temperature or applied stress triggers acoustic instability of lattice and then leads to displacive structure change and diffusional composition redistribution.
There is a typical 'herring-bone' structure self-accommodated by four variants.
Although other alloying elements were free in the simulation, the simulated microstructure well represents the typical appearance of martensites in high alloying steels, which implies that the alloying elements play their rules more via the geometry rather than the chemistry.

XRD spectra recorded from the ascast and heat-treated samples, Figure 6, provided evidence that the Al2O3 particles present in the composite have the structure of corundum α-Alumina, which is hexagonal with lattice dimensions of a = 4.72 Å and c = 12.82 Å, and contains 18 oxygen organized in layers and 12 aluminum atoms in two-thirds of the octahedrally coordinated voids between the oxygen atoms.
