Materials and methods
Contaminated soil was collected from a farmer in the Huanjiang river basin, Guangxi, south China. air-dried at room temperature and sieved through a 2-mm plastic sieve.

Abstract: Zircon whiskers were prepared via non-hydrolytic sol-gel process combined with molten salt method, using Si(OC2H5)4 (TEOS) and ZrCl4 as raw materials, LiF as mineralizer, and Na2WO4 as molten salt.
It has well-ordered atomic arrangement and complete structure, which endows the whisker material with high strength [2].
And because its strength is close to the theoretical value of crystal, whisker is used as reinforcing phase in composite materials [3].
