Magnetorheological (MR) elastomers are smart materials whose physical properties can undergo instantaneous and reversible change when subjected to different intensities of the magnetic field.
MR elastomers are a new generation of MR materials, which consists of micrometre-sized magnetically permeable particles in a polymer medium (such as natural or synthetic rubber).
Thin aluminum plates are chosen for elastic surface plates because of its low damping properties and relatively high stiffness properties compared to that of the MR materials.
The MR elastomers materials used in this study consists of silicone rubber (Liyang Silicone Rubber Adhesives Factory, China, Model 704) and carbonyl iron particles (BASF, Germany, model CM) with a size of 3-5µm.
