As one of the
most common building materials in the world, when comparing wood to the other basic building
materials, such as concrete and steel, only wood is renewable.
Materials and Methods The rotary-cut veneers used in this study were made from poplar (Populus ussuriensis Kom.) which were commercially purchased in Heilongjiang district in China.
Accordingly, non-deficient, proper, knotless, and normally grown (without zone line, reaction wood, decay, insect and fungal damages) wood materials were selected.

For brittle materials, numerical studies have been implemented by a number of researchers using various numerical codes and models to simulate the processes of rock fracturing under blasting loads [1-7].
But for brittle materials subjected to high confining pressures under blasting loads, the achievements of the numerical study on material responses are limited.
For rock materials, Zhu et al [1] have developed a rock dynamic model and by employing this model, rock fracturing mechanism under dynamic loads has been investigated, however, the confining pressures were not considered in his model.
