Abstract: Numerical investigations on failure process of rock-like materials with a single flaw were carried out under uniaxial compression based on the fracture analysis software: Fracture Analysis Code in Two Dimensions (FRANC2D/L).
With the load increases, the initiation, propagation, interaction and coalescence of those original defects will become the important form of brittle materials failure.

The influences of coating materials on the temperature distribution in the cutting tools were investigated.
After the mathmatical analysis,the results obtained from two kinds of coating materials are shown in Fig.2.
From Fig.2, comparision between KCU10 cutting tools (first coating layer materials is TiAlN) and KT315 cutting tools (first coating layer materials is TiN), there is a temperature difference on the tool rake face.

Magnesium lightweight wallboard is a new kind of building wall materials in recent years.
Magnesium light wallboard contains the light burned magnesia, magnesium chloride, calcium silicon and composite gelled material, which compose the lightweight, high strength wall materials by adding magnesium reconciling agent, high-molecular polymer and industrial waste.

However, the surface roughness tends to decrease with the increase in cutting speed when cutting of ductile materials.
In this study, 45# carbon steel (0.45% carbon) and cast iron were selected as the workpiece materials.
From this figure, it can be seen that the cutting speeds have the same effects on surface roughness for the two kinds of tool materials.
In machining of cast iron, PCBN and Si3N4 based ceramics are most commonly used tool materials [9].
