Destabilizing Effect of Zirconia Products Caused by Aluminum TIAN Xiao Li1,a, XUE Qun Hu1,b and XUE Chong Bo2,c 1School of Material Science & Engineering, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, China 2Puyang Refractories Group Co.
Thermodynamic analysis on destabilizing effect of zirconia products caused by aluminum is carried on by using material Gibbs free energy function, and then the experimental verification was tested by scanning electron microscope (SEM).
It leads to forming defects in materials, and then reducing the service life.
Experimental Verification Experimental Mixtures were prepared using stabilized zirconia with calcium oxide or magnesium oxide as stabilizer, aluminum powder as main starting materials and zirconia gel as a binder.

Experimental The raw materials used in this study were the commercial pure aluminum (≥99.85%), magnesium ingots (≥99.75%), zinc ingots (≥99.75%), Al-20%Cu, Al-10%Mn and Al-5%Cr master alloy.
